BREADCRUMB partners initiate a public data-driven discussion on the links between existing Food Marketing Standards and Food Waste

Following the creation of the Inventory, which provided a detailed catalogue of Food Marketing Standards and an EU-wide survey and interview data analysis, VLTN, along with its partners in the BREADCRUMB consortium, invited researchers and experts to evaluate the results and discuss hypotheses on the relationship between existing food marketing standards, and the relationship of these standards with food waste.

To streamline the discussion, BREADCRUMB partners planned 2 webinars: the first one in November 2024, with the participation of the project’s Food Marketing Standards Interest Group, and the second webinar in January 2025 with external stakeholders, including invitees from industry, academia, and experts in the following food commodities: fruits & vegetables, meat (bovine, pork and poultry), eggs, fish, and cereals.

The November discussion was facilitated via a digital SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Strengths) analysis board, where the participants were encouraged to share their perspectives on the proposed data-driven hypotheses.

The discussion at both webinars helped to assess the conclusions from the research and to further formulate and improve the hypotheses on the nature of food marketing standards, their interconnections, and their relations to food waste.
