Still valuable – just not retail-ready
The fight against food waste starts with what we don’t throw away.
In their organic grain processing, Vila Natura explains that “waste” doesn’t mean spoiled or unsafe food – it often means products that don’t meet strict retail standards. These can include:
-
grain bran that is too coarse for packaging,
-
particles left after grain cleaning,
-
or material that doesn’t meet specifications.
Although unsuitable for end consumers, these materials are still valuable.
Vila Natura’s solution
Instead of sending these by-products to landfill, Vila Natura collaborates with specialized buyers in the food industry who use them as raw materials for animal feed. This ensures that every part of the grain finds its role, turning potential waste into a valuable resource.
In the first half of 2025 alone, Vila Natura “saved” 40 tonnes of organic food that would not have been accepted by retail buyers due to strict standards – a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
“We are proud to contribute to a circular food system, where by-products are also part of the solution.”
